Hands of Compassion, Hearts of Grace

Hearts of Grace

Hello friends and teachers, this blog was created to fulfill the ASAS Collaboration assignment between English, Christian Education, and Informatics. This blog contains a recount text about SMW or Saint Mary’s Way. Besides that, I will also share about the ministry I have done at church. But before that, I will first explain what SMW (Saint Mary’s Way) is.

SMW or Saint Mary’s Way is an activity held by the school specifically for 9th grade students of Santa Maria Junior High School, and this activity aims to share love through service in churches or orphanages. This activity is also done in groups, and each group is assigned to different places such as churches, Sunday schools, or orphanages. I was assigned to serve in the Sunday school at HKBP.

The Saint Mary’s Way activity was carried out for three weeks, and I did it together with my two friends, Tiur and Debora. We carried out this activity on September 21, September 28, and October 5.

On September 21, the first day of Saint Mary’s Way, we were still closely guided by the Sunday school
teachers. When we arrived at the church, we were immediately assigned to greet the congregation who came for Sunday school. We welcomed them warmly, and they also came with joyful hearts. After that, we sat together with the other children, but Debora sat near the Sunday school teachers to help operate the PowerPoint slides. During the offering session, Tiur, Debora, and I helped the teachers collect the offerings. After collecting the offerings, we prayed together and continued listening to the word of God delivered by the Sunday school teacher. We were very happy because we had the chance to serve the congregation, and they welcomed us kindly. On the first day, I learned many things such as teamwork, serving God, and many more. Of course, I did all of it with a joyful heart.

On the second day, September 28, we carried out the same activities as the first week. When we arrived at the church, the three of us immediately became greeters. We welcomed the congregation with joyful hearts. After greeting them, we sat together with the others. Just like the previous week, Debora continued helping with the slides. During the offering, the three of us helped collect the offerings again, but this time we were also assisted by other children. After collecting the offerings, we prayed and then listened to the word of God delivered by the Sunday school teacher. Just like the previous week, the three of us did the Saint Mary’s Way activities wholeheartedly.

On the third day, October 5, which was the last day, the activities were almost the same as the previous
weeks. We started by greeting the congregation, then Debora helped the teacher with the slides again. During the offering session, the three of us, together with two other children, collected the offerings. After that, we continued with prayer and then listened to the word of God again.

Even though the activities from the first to the third day were almost the same, I learned many valuable things from Saint Mary’s Way, such as serving with a sincere heart and building good teamwork.

That is all about my experience during Saint Mary’s Way, and now I will share about my ministry at church. I attend HKBP, and my family and I have always gone to church there. Since I was born, I was baptized and confirmed there. I have received many things from that church and have also done many things there.

When I was little, I was often registered to join various events such as Christmas, Easter, and even church camping. When I was little, my mom often registered me to join dances for Christmas events, and I loved it so much. When I found out that my mom registered me, I felt very happy. During practice, I always practiced with enthusiasm and joy. Every year I often participated in Easter, and I usually chose to join the dance performance. However, during Christmas or Easter, I also often registered myself as a liturgist.

I experienced many things while serving at church. I am very happy to be able to serve both at church and during SMW. I hope that I can continue serving and be able to serve even more people in the future.
